ReflectionAs a graduate teacher I believe that it is not only my job but more importantly my responsibility to design and implement effective teaching and learning experiences that challenge students and extend them into their zone of proximal development. This is evidenced by a sose unit that I collaboratively designed with my peers which sets challenging learning goals and utilises an inquiry based approach. The unit was designed to select and use resources which not only support the learning of individuals but that responds to the interests and needs of all students (ACRARA, 2010).
This unit demonstrates my ability to plan and sequence lessons based around the social investigation strategy which assists students in discovering and analysing key content by themselves through an inquiry approach. The plan of this unit evidences that I am able to plan constructivist based learning experiences which requires the teacher and the students to share responsibility for the learning (Reynolds, 2012). This unit is effective in that in caters for the development of student’s practical, critical and technical knowledge and embeds authentic learning where new knowledge is progressed from prior understandings. As a teacher I will aspire to continue to use inquiry based approaches, along with other strategies, to maximise the successful achievements of students in my classroom. |
