Standard 6: Engage in Professional learning"One's work may be finished some day, but one's education never" -- Alexandre Dumas "Focus Areas

ReflectionI believe a key and fundamental part of the teaching profession is to ensure that my knowledge and practice is continually evolving and being reflected on. This means being committed to and participating in the ongoing process of professional renewal, learning and development (AITSL, 2012). As a pre-service teacher, I believe I have developed a set of quality skills towards my pedagogical approach to teaching. However, as a fully qualified and accredited teacher I look forward to continuing to learn and update my methods and approaches to teaching that I can implement throughout the course of my career (AITSL, 2012).
As teachers we encourage our students to build upon their prior learnings in order to reach their maximum potential and for ourselves as educators it should be no different (ACARA, 2010). This is evidenced by my professional development plan which specifies key areas that I deem of importance and identifies areas I need and am looking forward to improving as a professional. This plan highlights that I anticipate joining a number of professional associations and collaborating with my colleagues, just as I have collaborated with my peers throughout my course, to ensure my teaching practices are reflecting research and curriculum developments as they occur. This will ensure that through professional learning I am demonstrating and maintaining a contemporary pedagogy and a high level of academic knowledge (Catholic Education Archdiocese of Brisbane, 2010). |
