ReflectionAs educators, it is essential to not only plan and facilitate learning experiences that support full participation of the diverse range of students within a learning environment but to also be aware of the legislative requirements of teachers (AITSL, 2012). My awareness of the legislative requirements for designing lessons that support students with disabilities is evidence by the attached piece of writing. It identifies that what I believe is essential to the teaching and learning process is ensuring that experiences are diverse, inclusive and support the needs of children with a difference. I believe that it is imperative that these children are made to feel welcomed and are nurtured and educated in the same manner as children without a disability or difference.
In my classroom I plan to utilise scaffolding and peer learning which will occur in a supportive classroom environment and will encourage participation of students with a difference. My piece of evidence identifies that I am aware of the legislative requirements at a global, national and school level but most importantly at a classroom level. It highlights that I believe classrooms are the place where it becomes essential to ensure that children with a disability or difference are not merely being integrated into the classroom and given different activities based on their achievement level but are placed in a classroom that is adapting to their needs (Churchill et al., 2011). This view is something I will consider at the heart of everything I do when planning for diversity in my classroom. |
